For power users and enthusiastic people it is sometime very useful to have a bootable OS in their pen drive. In difficult situations you can use it for data backup and rescue a computer. Microsoft introduced this feature in enterprise version of windows 8 and named it “Windows To Go”. Sadly this feature is not available in other versions of windows. That leaves as only with one choice -LINUX. Many Linux distros can be installed in USB drives and you can copy their contents and make them bootable.
Lets Start-
Things you will need:

A USB drive. For installer only even 1GB will work.
A linux distro – we will use ubuntu in this tutorial.
A usb burning program – we will use universal USB installer.
Here is how:

1. Download Universal USB installer: it is a small application you can download it from here.
2. Open the downloaded application. You will see a license Agreement.

3. If you agree the terms and conditions click on button labeled “I Agree”

4. On the first drop down menu select the Linux distribution.
There are many Linux distributions on the list, be careful while selecting the OS version.
5. If You have the ISO image of distribution click Browse and select the ISO file, But if you don’t have ISO file, Don’t worry about that just click on the checkbox labeled “Download the ISO ” your web browser will open and from there you can download the ISO image. After the download complete browse and select the ISO file.
6. Now Plug your USB key into your computer and from the second drop down menu select your USB drive.
Be sure to have sufficient space on your USB key, and backup all the contents of your USB drive.

7. Hit the create button.
After the USB burning process is complete you can use your USB to boot and install Linux on other PCs you can also use it as a Live CD.
Booting from USB drive
Plug your USB key in a USB port and restart your computer
Your PC should boot from USB directly but if it doesn’t you will have to dig in BIOS and change the boot order.
